Starlight Goes Red for Heart Health
February is Heart month. In support, the SMBC Health Ministry, has asked the Starlight Family to wear "red" as a part of your church attire on this coming Sunday. The goal is to raise awareness about combating cardiovascular disease, particularly in the African American community. So get your red together for Sunday and make plans to visit your doctor regarding your heart health.
MLK Day 2026 - "A Day on, Not a Day Off!
The Youth Nation of Starlight MBC and the greater Slidell community celebrated the Martin Luther King Day as a day of service. The experience brought the community together to give back, support one another, and make a meaningful impact. The day included a wide range of events: Community outreach - dedication of the Community Love Box, addressing food needs of the community; Leadership development - led by the Honorable Omar Mason, Judge Civil District Court Division E, that used President Obama's book "Dreams From My Father", and outreach - the construction of pillow case dresses for girls in Africa. A great time in fellowship, service and learning was had by all.

Celebrating more than 10 years of service - praising God and edifying His people via music and song.
Fall Revival 2025
Starlight hosted its Fall Revival, October 14th - 16th, each night starting 7pm. The guest revivalist was the Rev. Robert J. McDuffey; pastor of the Taylor Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Newhebron Ms. We received strong messages from this man of God; Day 1 - "The Power of Crying Out" (Mark 10:46), Day 2 - "When the Righteous Return to the Lord" (Proverb 18:10) and Day 3 - "Continue in God" (Acts 2:46-47). All were lifted up, spirits filled and hearts inspired by the Word of God.
39 Years of Service
On August 17th during our 11am Worship Service, we will celebrate the service and dedication of our Pastor, Dr. Shovie Ducre. He has served as the 16th Pastor, in Starlight's 147 years of serving God and the Slidell/St. Tammany Parish areas. Pastor Ducre is a leader in the ministerial community in addition to leading the spiritual and physical growth of the Starlight MBC family. Many of those he has trained and mentored have gone on the serve other church bodies. Further expanding his influence in spreading the word of God.

39th Anniversary Legacy Presentation
Service Recognition - Deacon Maurice Bacon
Deacon Maurice Bacon was recognized during worship service on May 4, 2025 for his long tenure as Church Clerk. His tenure began about 1988 and concluded in 2024. Over the years he was responsible for multiple improvements in the church's administrative and fiscal operations; continuously improving and effectively supporting the needs of the congregation and the ministries. His fiscal skills were essential to the planning, execution and operation phases of the church's facility infrastructure expansion. In the midst of the expansion and the devastation of hurricane Katrina, he assured the fiscal soundness of the church while supporting the Pastor's congregational care program and our Youth Ministry led community support program - Operation Food.
Deacon Bacon has played a critical role in setting the church on a great trajectory to continue God's plan for it. We honor and thank you, Deacon Bacon, for all you have given in service to God's people and His mission for Starlight Missionary Baptist Church.
Thirty-one years of teaching God's Word
Deacon Argusta McDuffey - has served as Tuesday Night Bible Study teacher for the past 31 years and he continues in this role today. We celebrate his dedication and skillfulness in dissecting and presenting God's Holy work. He began his teaching at Starlight MBC in the book of Genesis and recently completed the book of Revelation, some 31 years later. This speaks volumes of the detail and patience he applies to preparation and presentation such that anyone can understand the message.
Thank you Deacon McDuffey for sharing those nuggets God has placed on your heart.
Come and join the women of Starlight in praising our Lord and Savior through prayer. An hour dedicated to lifting up the name of Jesus, thanking Him for all He has done in our lives and elevating those in need of prayer to His attention.

The Starlight Health Ministry, in partnership with Humana, are hosting fun, healthy and informative events for Slidell community. The monthly events are a great way to learn, share and reach out in service to our congregation and greater community.

147th Church Anniversary
Starlight MBC hosted a week long celebration of its 147th year of service to our Lord and Savior. Glorifying God and edifying His people, through music, song, and fellowship. Click the button below to view Starlight MBC's rich history.
The Starlight Family will begin the celebration of our 147th year anniversary with a musical presentation by the SMBC Mass Choir. Through the Grace of God, the musical selections will ignite a passion for Christ, provide encouragement for your Christian journey, and fuel the Faith we need every day.
The evening of praise will be brought to you by the Starlight MBC Music Ministry, under the leadership and direction of Mrs. Sharon Lewis and groups of talented choral directors, voices and musicians.
Our own, Pastor Shovie Ducre, will the Word of God to all those participating in this great celebration. Recognizing and thanking God for where he has brought us from, what He is doing and what He is going to do. Thanking Him, as Pastor Ducre says, for "not being homeless" because we are a part of the body of Christ.

Bro. A'Khari Rainey - Guest Youth Choir Director
Bro. A'Khari Rainey, a member of the music ministry at Mt. Pilgrim and St. Luke Baptist Churches in Houma Louisiana, conducted a choir workshop with the Starlight MBC Youth Nation earlier in October and came back to co-direct the Youth choir singing "Have Your Way Lord". Thank you Bro. A'Khari for blessing our Youth Nation and our congregation with the gifts God has blessed you with.
Celebration of Life
Following the walk, we will gather, learn and celebrate the blessings of healing from all variations of cancer related diseases. We will lift up and highlight personal experiences as opportunities for encouragement and to praise the great doctor and healer - our Lord and Savior Jesus Chirst.
